In White Plains, NY, an architect by the name of Rainer Schrom was to build four individual homes on the property of the German International School of New York. For those unfamiliar, the purpose of these homes is to house the families of all of the students attending the international school, those of which have traveled from thousands of miles away to be there. This private school is located approximately 25 miles north of NYC, enrolling about 400 students from primarily German-speaking countries. A total of 42 tilt and turn windows and 4 tilt and slide doors were used to complete the project.

Schrom described the idea for these home as  “a typical American home, simple and as clean as possible.” Originally, these homes had called for typical American windows. The project was most likely to incorporate some type of double-hung or standard sliding windows. Schrom, on the other hand, had another idea in mind.

At Schrom’s request, they decided to use tilt and turn windows and tilt and slide doors to complete the project. These windows and doors, already very dominant in many parts of Europe, are finally starting to become a common option for many people in North America. This project is just another example of the upcoming trend.

“In the end, it’s a performance plus price equation,” said Schrom. Because Schrom had actually already used these windows and doors in his own home, he knew all of their capabilities first-hand. Making his case for these windows and doors, he pushed the idea on how they are the highest-performing options on the market. His pitch worked.

Susan on “The Result”

From thermal to acoustic performance, these windows and doors are unmatched. Compression seals and multiple locking points prevent sound from entering the home, and prevent cold air from entering the home as well as warm air from escaping in the colder months. Energy efficiency is just one of the many perks associated with them. Ease of use and longevity (we mean it, these windows and doors will last you a lifetime) just add icing to the cake.
